I must admit, I’ve owned a few pairs of rather fabulous sunglasses. There was the white tiger print cats-eye glasses that made me look swank and bitchy. The ooh-la-la pair of tortoiseshell Coach glasses. And the wire-rimmed ones whose lenses faded from sky blue to pink.

But I wouldn’t classify any of them as movie star sunglasses. The kind you’d wear with a floppy hat if you were attempting to go incognito. I guess I’ll have to keep looking.

Probably to be combined with #190: Write my memoirs. I’d like to take the photographs and souvenirs I collected over the years and put them together with my words to tell the story of my life.

I guess you’d have to say that I was a late bloomer, but I definitely learned to play the field. There were a few months there where I had 3-4 dates a week. It was fun while it lasted, but it was also exhausting.

Cruises are so common nowadays, it’s hard for some people to believe that I’ve never been on one.

So my sister and I have a cruise planned for November of 2010. We don’t know where we’re going yet. We’ve both opened savings accounts at Smarty Pig and are saving our pennies. We plan to just look for whatever great deals there are closer to the time that we’re leaving.

I’m marking this one as a ‘work in progress’ because I have actually started learning. Around April of 2008, I took a class called ‘Car Care for Women’ taught by a Karen Valenti, a woman who owns and runs North Hollywood Discount Auto Service. If you’re in the neighborhood and your car needs some work, I highly recommend Karen as an honest, capable, straight-talking mechanic.

The best thing about this class is that you get to bring your own car, and you learn how to check your own car’s oil, transmission fluid, coolant, brake fluid, and belts and hoses. Karen said knowing about those few things would help you to quickly evaluate the condition of any car – she said she routinely buys 10-year-old cars and drives them for several years – mostly because she’d rather spend her money on other things.

I know, I know. It’s juvenile and silly. But I never played. Not once.

Maybe it was because I was from such a small town and everybody had kissed everybody else already anyway. I never heard of any party in my town where the kids played Spin the Bottle or 7 Minutes in Heaven or anything.

If you ask my mother, she’ll tell you that Tarot cards are Satanic – the work of the Devil! I disagree. I think they’re pretty harmless, but vastly entertaining and intriguing.

How did an ancient card game in Italy become a fortune-telling scheme? It’s funny – no one seems to know.

The problem with learning to read Tarot cards is that it’s very personal. The meaning assigned to a card by one reader is completely different than the meaning assigned by another reader. That’s why you need to find a book or a teacher that will show you how to develop your own ideas about what things mean.

Then you can amaze and entertain your friends, and maybe even pick up a little extra cash on the Venice Beach boardwalk.

I think there’s something very powerful in knowing that you can defend yourself. It gives you a confidence and self-assurance that you couldn’t get otherwise.

My aunt and uncle had a video camera when I was a kid. It was monstrosity – a gigantic heavy thing had to be loaded up with VHS tapes.

Now, I’d like to have a Flip. They’re so cute!

One of my favorite movies of all time is Living Out Loud with Holly Hunter and Danny DeVito and Queen Latifah. I recommend you watch it if you haven’t seen it yet.

Near the end of the movie, Holly Hunter’s character has really taken charge of her own life and we see her working with volunteers in a nursery. She’s telling a nervous-looking volunteer that the babies just like to be held as they walk into a beautiful calm room full of women in rocking chairs, holding tiny bundles in blankets.

I’ve wanted to be one of those women in that room ever since I saw that.

I don’t know if anyone has simpler needs than an infant. Warmth, love, cleanliness, and food. It makes me sad to think that there are babies out there without those basic needs being met.
